Target - Copyright issue

First, thank you very much to all of you who responded to my inquiry about
MARC records from LOC.

We are working on a project to send home reading materials for ESOL children
and somebody suggested having older children tape stories to send home with
the books.

I don't know why, but I think I heard this violates copyright laws.  Does
anybody have any knowledge about this?  Or am I imagining something?
