I am posting a hit at long last…with finals and the end of the school year, time just got away from me and I have not had time to test all of the solutions everyone suggested. The consensus on LM_NET is that there is really no good answer for my (our) problem. Many of you asked for a hit, so here it is. If anyone figures out an EASY method for finding (reinstalling) the Clipart files, please post it. Many people wrote asking for the answer to this problem. ORIGINAL MESSAGE We just purchased Publisher 2000 for use in our computer lab. When we installed this program it wiped out all of the Clipart files in the Office 97 suite. Not only have we lost the clipart for those programs, Publisher will not let us access any of the 2000 clipart without the CD-ROM. I know there has to be a way to reinstall the clipart or to install the new Clipart from the Publisher 2000 CD, but I (and our computer teacher) cannot figure it out. Also, does anyone have any idea where I can find a directory to the MS Clipart files? When you look at the file, all of the clipart has assigned numbers. Without a directory, we just hit or miss as we try to use the CD. I have checked the Microsoft website, but can't find anything listed there. Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated. TIA ------- YOUR ANSWERS I have Pub 2000 on my home computer. To use clip art on the hard drive, you have to go into the program through the setup procedure. One of the options should be to install additional items. Pub 2000 uses some strange icons, so check their meaning when trying to add additional components. I installed all of clip art to my hard drive and could access them without the CD. ----- This is a fun one. You must go in on the install program and customize your settings. That way when you install it will allow you to save the clipart to the hard drive. From what I understand the reason it does not allow you to do it automatically is because of the space that it takes on the hard drive. ------ I suggest you check the Microsoft website - there are technical articles on this issue. There are a variety of problems with 2000. You may also have a problem with various users trying to log into the workstation and the program not working at all. When you install - be sure to say run from the computer and it will install all clipart. ------ Let's see if I can help a bit. First of all, the problem with Publisher 2000 asking for the CD is that you did not tell it to run the clipart from the hard drive when you installed. You have to do a custom installation to do that (guess how I know!!!!). So, put your CD in the drive, go to the control panel, add/remove programs. Select Publisher 2000. You'll end up back in the setup program, and now you can select items to install that you did not install on the first try. The office 97 clipart is still there, but your program is looking for it in the wrong place. Did you install Office 2000, or just Pub. 2000? Anyway, see if you can find where on the hard drive the clip art is located (do a find file for clipart). It may be in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared. I think that when I went to insert the clip art, I had to use a right mouse click and then choose properties. Somewhere there I was able to set the path to the clipart. After I did just a couple, it seemed like the rest were o-k. However, this was after switching to office 2000 without uninstalling 97, so I don't know if this works in 97. Another option (maybe) is to go under Tools, Options, File locations and put in the path to the clip art there. ----- Can't you just reinstall Office, and the clipart should be back? ---- ******************************************************************** Angela Y Northern MLS Graduate Student IUPUI-Indianapolis, IN anorther@seidata.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
