Whether or not the subject of guns is "on-topic" for LM_Net, the request for suggestions and comparable policies is not "off-topic". After all, we are information specialists. To provide a school's policy on a similar subject is definitely within bounds. And in this day and age, I would certainly hope we could ask each other for suggestions on how to handle pre-violent behavior. Once, my sister had given me a plastic gun for a Christmas gag gift because I was a single girl who had moved to a large city to work. It shot little sparks out, and I loved it. Imagine my surprise when it was confiscated from me at the airport. As you can imagine, none of the baggage checkers were smiling when I tried to explain the reason I was carrying it on my person. The fact was that I could have used it as a weapon in someone's back, whether or not it was real.
