Dear Colleagues,
    I recently requested your recommendations for online literary
criticism.  We currently subscribe to Gale Online and have Twayne and
Scribners Authors available.  Poor user interface and slowness of their
server make this a less than satisfactory product.  It is also quite
expensive.  Many of you wrote expressing those sentiments.
    Recommendations that were made include Internet Public Library which
I have used, but have some reservations about.  Some of the information
comes from college web pages, written by students.  There are the
occasional misspellings and I might have some questions about the
authority source.  I would recommend that source with a "proceed with
caution".
    The other commercial site recommended was Chadwyck-Healey, recently
acquired by Bell and Howell and available through BigChalk.  You can set
up a trial subscription through your BigChalk rep.  The web address is
www.chadwyck.com/
    I wish I could offer more options, but I fear there isn't much out
there and that's why Gale is in no hurry to improve their product.
