Hi! I like Scholastic's Dear America series, but I recently stumbled on = some info. about some of the books that gave me pause. While I was = doing some research on My Heart is on the Ground by Ann Rinaldi, I = discovered the Oyate website (www.oyate.org). Under the section called = "Books to Avoid", I found strong reviews about My Heart... and The Girl = Who Chased Away Sorrow by Ann Turner (Both of these books have Native = American protagonists.). According to the Oyate reviews, these books = contain many historical inaccuracies and racially biased statements. = Yikes! =20 Since discovering this info. about these particular Dear America books, = I've been trying to find more reviews concerning historical inaccuracies = and racial insensitivity in the series, especially concerning the books = with African-American protagonists. Does anyone has any info. about = this subject? Thanks!
