Our school is considering purchasing the Success for All Program to improve reading scores. I am concerned about the requirement that all teachers - even the music, art, P.E. teachers, and librarian will all have reading classes for 90 minutes every morning. I am currently the only librarian in our elementary school of about 600 students. We actually have 2 separate libraries, one for K-3, and the other for grades 4-6. I cannot imagine how I will maintain my current responsibilities (I've been here 10 years, but it doesn't ever seem to get particularly easy) and also add a 90 minute reading class to every day. (By the way, I am also in the process of migrating our library catalog from Dynix Scholar to SIRSI along with our school library system consortia, as well as anticipating full renovations for both libraries.) Has anyone out there experienced the Success for All Program? If so, what was your role as the SLMS? Any feedback will be appreciated, as well as suggestions for how to approach this situation.
