In the circumstance you describe where the science teacher is asking students to bring divergent viewpoints in regarding creation then you probably have a case for owning at least one text on this viewpoint but I would be sure to catalog it in the religion not the science numbers. I would also make sure I told all the interested parties about my thinking on this before I bought the book and I would get any and all reviews I could find. It is not your position to support home schooling needs but it is your position to support curriculum. I think the teacher working with this issue should be given a heads-up about this discussion too. It may be that the principal and the curriculum coordinator will be very interested in this. The Kansas court case that went to the Supreme Court found that School Boards can't remove things just because they don't agree with them so I would think the reverse would be true. If there is a curriculum driven reason to include this topic then it should be included. An aside: I ran across a book that referred to Christianity as "according Christian myth" which I liked very much because I feel that we in the Western tradition tend to believe that Christianity is "true" and everything else is "myth". It is nice to be jolted out of our point of view once in awhile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GenAnn Keller, Librarian Elizabeth Middle School 34427 County Rd. 13 Elizabeth CO 80107 303.646.1791, fax 303.646.4860 genann_keller@ceo.cudenver.edu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
