The 2000 had the same warning so I brought it home to check it. Comments from our 5th grader, 8th grader, and Mom focused on: The rather large picture of the 'most downloaded picture of a person' in a rather small bikini (8th grade girl wondered why she wasn't built like that, Mom wondered why it was so big (the picture not the bikini), and the 5th grade boy wanted to keep the book in his room.) Couple of pictures of large tumor and other operations (comments were basically 'yuch!') I think there were also some statistics that weren't real elementary, like countries that drank the most beer, etc. We get each year's edition. Real popular, and no parent complaints Robert Eiffert, Librarian at Image Elementary http://www.ima.egreen.wednet.edu/library.html Elementary Librarian BLog www.crypticmachinery.com -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Mary Ludwick Sent: Friday, August 31, 2001 12:45 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Guiness Book of World Records 2000/2001 A parent came in today to inquire about exactly what was in the Scholastic edition of the Guiness Book of World Records 2001. The sale page states that material may be objectional to parents. I really thought this had been discussed in the past, but searching the LMNet archives under "Guiness" or "World Records" or just the year" 2000" brought no results regarding objectionable material. If I remember correctly, the concern was over low cut blouse/exposed busoms. So, if you are aware of what is in the book, please let me know. I told her this group would have an answer by Tuesday AM.......TIA!! -- Mary Croix Ludwick B.B.
