TARGET: Do you know this book?

Dear LM Netters:

A parent has asked me to help him locate a book he read years ago to his =
oldest daughter. These are the things he remembers about it:

It had a gray cover (I could NOT hold in my laughter!), it was about a =
mouse who lived in a house and used to watch the people who lived there. =
The mouse became ill and because it wasn't going to live until =
Christmas, the family celebrated the holiday early. The parent thought =
that the book was about how the love we have in our hearts keeps the =
spirit of Christmas alive all year.

Going back to our job description discussion - can anyone help with =
identifying this book?
