Dear Colleagues, A new teacher at my school is planning an author study of Natalie Babbitt. She wants to do a wonderful job (of course) with this extended project. And she would like to develop activities to accommodate special needs students. She has found enough copies of Tuck Everlasting, so that title will be the book her class focuses on. I am looking for ideas to make this project fun and meaningful. One possibility I thought about is focusing on Babbitt's drawing and painting background and finding (and illustrating) some of the descriptive scenes from Tuck Everlasting. Another possibility is to consider the desire for everlasting life and how people in the present and the past have saught to live longer than the normal life span. Specifically I'm thinking about Ponce de Leon and his search for the Fountain of Youth. Tuck Everlasting is such a remarkable book. I would love to have your suggestions for activities related to an author study of Natalie Babbitt.
