GENN:PR broadcast re weeding PA school libraries

I listened to the NPR broadcast (first time I had used my real player in
that fashion so I also learned something new). I was glad to
hear what they said, the show was for the public to explain what was goin=
g
to happen. Hopefully the local public as well as nationwide will gain an
understanding of why we weed. I got the impression that librarians would =
be
involved.

I tool I hightly recommend for weeding is Weed of the Month - which is
posted every month on LM_NET. They always have a few paragraphs explainin=
g
why the monthly section should be weeded. When I have questions (not usua=
ly
as I ususally weed quietly) I show them the criteria. The format of looki=
ng
at a section at a time, one a specific subject really helps me. The curre=
nt
topic of Civil Rights made me stop and look at my collection to discover =
I
had a nice collection about the civil rights act of 1964 but not much aft=
er
that.

Many thanks to the person who first posted the information about the NPR
"show" I will return to NPR for other shows. I understand from a link on
Bigchalk.com that NPR has a program to allow teachers to use the shows in=

conjunction with lesson plans.
