This year's Newbery winner is a pleasure to read.  It is 1937 and
fifteen-year-old Mary Alice's parents can't afford to keep her in
Chicago so they send her to live with her Grandmother on the farm
in Illinois.  Grandma is a shotgun-toting colorful character who lives
by herself.  This book tells of Mary Alice's year with her
grandmother and how she gets to know this interesting and
sometimes scary community character.  This is a sequel to "A
long way from Chicago" which probably deals with a summer spent
with the Grandmother. Since this 130 page book is a Newbery
winner, I am sure you will not miss purchasing it but be sure to
read it also.
