I love Dewey. Where I am a public librarian, I deal with this often. From how I see it, a brilliant person decided to move straight history to the higher 900s and keep the 910s travel related books. That does leave a problem as many collections now are lucky enough to have it "everywhere"- we do have some history left there in the lower 900s, and it was too much of a hassle to change it for collocation's sake. Some has been weeded since they have some pretty ancient copyrights and would give misinformation, and old travel books may be bye-bye as well for the same reason. Decade books and some geography are in the lower 900s, too- don't have the DDC in front of me to know the exact localtions, but I do know that it is frustrating. I am sure that wherever the collection is located (school or public) we're running into the same problem.
