Hi ya'll,

I always told the students in the libraries I worked in that "Easy" did
NOT mean easy to read. What it really meant was "easy to shelve" since we
only shelved by the beginning letter of the author's last name. I also
limited books in this section to those books which could be used for
story time (about 15 minutes to read aloud) about 32 pages long.

If a book was a picture book but dealt with a subject that could be hard
to understand or would take more explanation than just the book itself or
was longer than 32 pages -- I placed the book in fiction. So some of
Bunting's picture books (like The Wall) were placed in fiction because of
the theme or topic of the book. Seuss' books were both in fiction and
"easy." The kids had no problem with this and it meant that there were a
lot of "easy to read" books in fiction and it kept the "easy" section to
a manageable number.

Hope this helps.
