I will be teaching several sections of sixth graders for ten days each as part of a "wheel" this fall in a brand new middle school-- after 24 years in elementary teaching skills in isolation on a fixed schedule! (To say I am deliriously happy about this career change would be severely understating things! I am so happy!) I hope to work with the classroom teachers and tie what I am doing in with their classroom activities. I need ideas, lessons, etc. of what to cover in addition to these ideas I already have plus effective methods or activities for covering them: note taking copyright law searching the Internet using the automated catalog using the periodical database My supervisor envisions a "mini-research" project as the outcome of each of these 10 day sessions. (I will only have each group for one 10 day session.) I am hoping to cover the same with the 7th and 8th over the year as it will be new for them as well. (by the way, I have worked w/6th and 7th so I am familiar w/the age group) I think the topics for the projects could best come from the teachers but I want to make sure I cover the above listed skills and whatever else you geniuses can add. I also want to give rewards for work well done...just little treats, bookmarks, etc. after each lesson to all who accomplished a goal. (Any reward suggestions would be welcome as well.) Thank you for reading my long message and for any help you can offer.
