Laser Mice vs Roller Mice

We have spent some time developing and patenting a cheap and
easy method of cleaning mouse-ball rollers, but are finding that
several schools in our area are changing from mouseball/rollers to
lasers.

Having spent quite a lot of money developing this cleaning system,
we would be interested to know whether this is a trend everywhere,
and also whether those who have switched to lasers find them
efficient and cost effective?

I would be most grateful for any feedback, thanks.
