Hello fellow MD media specialists! I am a LMS in Cecil County and our local media organization is working on ways to get additional help in the library. Some schools have no library assistant, some have an assistant who spends most of her time doing cafeteria duty, and some have a library assistant who is in the library a lot of hours. I would like to know the situation in your library. Do you have a library aid? Is he or she considered a general aid or a paraprofessional? How many hours does he or she work in your LMC, exclusive of other duties such as cafeteria or covering classes? Does your aid have other duties? Does your aid work days when the students are not in school, such as the days before school opens, or after school closes? Does your aid assist students with work or do purely clerical work? Do your aid hours vary from year to year depending on the budget? Do you know if aid hours are consistent across your county libraries? Any information you can give me would be most helpful. Thank you in advance.
