Target: beginning chapter book section

Hello!
I am considering a beginning chapter book section aimed at 1-3 grades.  Does
anyone do this?  What criteria do you use to put it in this section as opposed
to your picture book section or regular fiction? What are some of the authors
in this section?  Also, what call letters do you use?
My purpose is also to keep 1st graders out of my fiction section where their
use of a shelf marker is haphazard at best.  I think a section like this would
also make it easier for the reluctant 2-3 graders to find a book more easily.
The regular fiction section can be so intimidating to 1st graders just
learning to read...
