We keep the AR sets in plastic boxes that the teachers can check out.

I agree with Elizabeth; the library is for recreational reading, and
curriculum support...NOT just the part of the curriculum that uses AR. I
want the children to come to the library for what THEY want...and if it's a
Clifford book for a 5th grader, so be it.

Our teachers often have two sets checked out, to cover the different reading
levels, and I do have all the AR tests on one computer in the library, and
our books are marked if they are AR. There are a couple of first graders
reading at 4th-5th level, and they can use this. But the library is a
LIBRARY, not a forced reading program.

I suppose if you are a flexible-schedule only facility, doing AR through the
library is one way of getting the kids to come in, but my goal is to make the
library a place that is pleasant and welcoming as well as useful for finding
answers.
