quotation/lyric help

For one of our art assignments the students need a quotation.  One =
student used the quotation "It's better to burn out, than to fade away." =
They attributed it to Kurt Cobain and I know it was in his suicide note =
but I think someone said it before him.  I'm thinking it was the lyric =
in a song, possibly by Neil Young.  Any help would be greatly =
appreciated!  I tried searching quotation and song lyric sights but have =
found nothing.
