Hello all, This stems from the "old days" of hand picking the type to be set for a newspaper or other publication. The cases of type were upper and lower. That's where we get our phrase for capital letters being upper case as they were in - you got it! - the upper case. As for P's and Q's - as the type is a mirror image of what is to be printed, the p and q looked alike, but the typesetter had to be careful which piece of type he was picking.
