TAR: Information Literacy Quest

I have been "requested" to assist the summer program at our school by
collaborating with two teachers who will be working with middle school
students.  Our goal is to collaboratively teach three different areas--study
skills, typing, and information literacy.

The session is for 3 hours per day for two weeks.  This won't be in-depth
because we each get about an hour a day to work with the students, so it's
got to be short and sweet--but to the point.

I'm looking for ideas to make this session FUN but informative too.  If you
have ideas that you've used, sessions that worked, topics that were great
for students in grades 5-8, would you mind sharing them?    The "theme" is a
nautical one that involves "life-savers"--this would include ways to "save
yourself from failing grades!"

If others are interested, I'll post a HIT.
