This is one reason why, in my school library, we don't have a "Non-fiction"
section.  We have "Early Readers" (Another name for picture books that the
little ones like since it implies that they can all read already) "Fiction"
and "Dewey Books".  Then they learn that "Dewey Books" includes non-fiction
as well as all the other things we know are there. I expect them to memorize
only a few Dewey numbers, 398 and 921 for everyone and two more that
interest each child personally, so they can find their favorites. To ward
off confusion, I also teach them that other libraries use a whole different
way of organizing, since our Chicago Public Library uses Library of
Congress.  Overall, it seems to work in my little library.
