Before trying to open the file, right click the icon and select
properties (at bottom of list). In that box, click off the Read-only
attribute (again at bottom).

It usually gets set to Read-only when burned to CD since you can't
change the file itself on the CD. But it stays RO when moved back to a
HardDrive or floppy.

I think there is a way to reset a bunch (like when moved from a backup
cd) of files from RO, but have either forgotten or not had the morning
ration of coffee.

Subject: HELP!! Opening a Read-Only File

I am desperate ... I have an immediate need to open a file on a CD,
which somehow is showing up as a read-only file. When we saved it (in
the wee hours of this morning), we logged out (it is an Excel file),
then went back and called it up, and it opened. This morning it is
saying it cannot open it because it is read-only.

I have tried -- Opening it through Excel
                          Opening it through My Computer
Sending it to myself, and a friend as an
e-mail attachment

I need this for a Board presentation tonight -- and am at wit's end.
Can anyone help? Thanks ... Kathy Reynolds
