I have a funny story. When I started work at the
library I am now employed at, I started weeding the
ancient collection. The library is on the second
floor so I got some students to open the windows and
throw the old books into the back of a truck for
disposal. This was during the summer when very few
people are around. I still get people saying, "I wish
I could have looked at the books you threw out the
window, I might have wanted some." I totally agree
that if your library does not need the outdated
material you should not pass it on to someone else.
Then they will have to find a way to dispose of it!
