I've had the opportunity to work with each of our
freshmen (200 students) in the fall. I have a 70 min.
class period (working with 50 students at a time) to
go over Media Center expectation and resources, my top
5 Internet searching tips and an activity I call "Do
we know Dewey?" to get them comfortable with looking
through our print collection and getting an overview
of its organization. I grade their notes on my
presentation and their activity and return their
assignments with a score out of 50 points.

I wish I had more time with them but am grateful for
the opportunity to meet all of them and open the doors
for future research and multimedia projects. It's a
lot of work and grading but it's worth it. I'm a
licensed teacher (a requirement in the state of
Indiana) so it's a natural fit for me in many ways.
