My supervisor has arranged a professional day for the few of us that are
media specialists next week. We will be meeting with the twp librarian and
going over ways to have a consortium. Two of us worked in conjunction with
her last year and it was wonderful. We are also going over skills for a
curriculum (she only wanted 6 per grade and I've told her I've already done
more than that and it's only mid-November, plus, I've given her a curriculum
I made in another district for the primary - intermed. grades.) We are also
going over automation, etc.
It seems that even back in the mid-80s, where I worked, people knew what a
media specialist was and did, and how our job differed from that of a
classroom teacher. It seems that where I work now, the district just
initiated these positions in the elem schools last year. They don't have a
clue. At our inservice yesterday, the other two med. sp. and I decided that
we needed to get the word out and would bring this up next week at our
meeting.
If you have a good description of how to describe what a media specialist is,
etc. (nothing too long--short and to the point!!) please send it. I am going
to present all of this bec. it's important that this is understood. I am
constantly defending my position. It seems that some people seem to think
that ANYONE can do the job!! HELP!!
There's more, but I won't go into that now!
