Apple Festival Gazette

Hello folks,

            A newspaper that promotes our Apple Festival in October has =
just
been published.  There are a variety of articles or short items that =
provide
information on the history, folklore and mythology of apples.  One =
article
promotes the health benefits of apples written back in 1849.  Another =
piece
lists 26 different ways that an apple can be identified with 40 other
sub-categories listed as well.

            We are also going to have someone playing the part of Johnny
Appleseed.  If you are not familiar with this individual, he was one =
awesome
dude!  One of the trees that he planted from the 1830's survived into =
the
1990's.  Cuttings from this tree are available from American Forests
Historic Tree Project.  His home town of Leominster, Massachusetts, also
raised $4.75 million dollars to save their last apple orchard.  Johnny
Appleseed has made it to the World Wide Web as well.

        If you have a teacher that does a unit on apples it might make a nice =
addition to the classroom.  If you are in an area where apples are an =
important crop, it could be worthwhile.
