How do you or your schools feel about using Reading Counts (or AR) as reading
grades? I have a statement in our guidelines recommending this not be done.
I do state they could be used as extra credit. I am in a Pre/K-3 school with
RC used with 2-3rd grades. A 3rd grade teacher told me today that she wanted
her RC report because she was going to use it to determine how much the
children were reading for their grade. I wanted to see how other schools
were dealing with using RC or AR for this. I personally do not believe it is
a reliable way to determine the "reading grade" since some students could be
cheating, good readers might not be taking as many tests, etc.

Thanks in advance,
