How do you or your schools feel about using Reading Counts (or AR) as reading grades? I have a statement in our guidelines recommending this not be done. I do state they could be used as extra credit. I am in a Pre/K-3 school with RC used with 2-3rd grades. A 3rd grade teacher told me today that she wanted her RC report because she was going to use it to determine how much the children were reading for their grade. I wanted to see how other schools were dealing with using RC or AR for this. I personally do not believe it is a reliable way to determine the "reading grade" since some students could be cheating, good readers might not be taking as many tests, etc. Thanks in advance, Tony Pope, Library Media Specialist McHenry Primary School 100 McHenry Drive Rome, GA 30161 Pope1966@aol.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
