Good afternoon, We have a third grader who was recently diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome. He is a darling child who isn't ready to share his disability with the rest of his class. It is a difficult situation because the children notice the tics and the fear is that he will become the butt of some teasing unless his classmates understand his illness. The school has plenty of info on the disease, articles about classroom strategies and an expert will come in for staff development. My principal asked me if there were fiction books available that would do for tourette's what the "Joey" books do for ADHD. That is, create a character that children can relate to and understand. I have searched BN onlline, and gone through the last ten years of Horn Book, but have found only one possibility, a book called Hi, I'm Adam. Thanks in advance.
