I want to thank everyone (hundreds!) of folks who responded to my request
for help with reference skills! I'll post the hit (in case there are other
newbies like myself) after I have time to digest them all (this weekend?) -
there are at least 100!

I may have left the impression that I had 56 kids in the library at once -
actually they were in 4 small class groups over several days. I tried some
of your tips the next day with a group sitting on the floor, and it went
much better. We're doing it again next week for 3rd graders (small groups
again), and this time I'm really prepared!

Thanks again for everyone's help!
