ELEM: If you liked Ricky Ricotta...??

I have a very reluctant second grade reader, a boy, and am trying to
find things to grab his interest.  He's reading at grade level and
apparently favors goofy and funny stuff.  His teacher thought that
Ricky Ricotta was a good bet.  Not many words, goofy all over.  Any
other ideas about what I could use to tempt him?
