I do charge fines- 5 cents for every school day with a one week grace
period. I send out overdue and fine notices once a month - individual slips
given to the homeroom teacher to pass out. The month before Finals I send
these notices out weekly. Three days before Finals I must give a list to the
Principal and to the Dean of Students of any who still have outstanding
items or fines. They then help me get the last ones in. At our school, it
is school policy that Finals cannot be taken unless all obligations are met.
Of course, we are not a public school, so that can be our policy.
This does not preclude a problem with books walking out of the library
without being checked out. At this point I am missing 7 Reference books and
8 other books. I am hoping that when they do final locker clean out they
will appear.
