GEN: Boxcar children

Some students have asked me a qustion about the Boxcar Children series of books by 
Gertrude Chandler Warner. I have not read the series and we don't have a copy of 
the first story in the series. The question the students want answered is: What 
happened to the parents of the boxcar children?
