What is this thing?

Hi All

As we're winding down the year I have a strange
question for you. A teacher brought me a THING wanting
to know what it is and what it's used for. She's
thinking of throwing it out but if it's got some great
use we'd love to know. It's rectangular, metal and
measures about 10 inches by 14 inches. It has a hinged
lid and inside it is a glass pane. The label says
Visu-Book Stage Patent Pending Technifax. Can anyone
out there help me with this. One more thing for us to
think about in our last few days!
