As a Media Specialist in training, I hesitate to join in this discussion. However, when it comes to educating a principal I believe that we have to keep in mind that like a CEO of a company, a principal must know every aspect of their organization. A principal needs to understand the academic importance of every discipline of their school and how they contribute to the complete education and success of their students. From each discipline's point of view, theirs is the most critical. I know, for instance, that studies show that foreign language acquisition enhances a child's ability to assimilate knowledge in other disciplines. The same is true for music. However pressure on administrators from every quarter isn't going to enhance any discipline's standing and for that matter their "staying power" when it comes to budget cuts and curricula changes. I would think that Gary Hartzell's focus on educating leadership through support and proactive input is the best. I like the idea that as we demonstrate our contributions to information literacy and exercise our school library media services on behalf of our administration and faculty, we will educate our princiapals.
