Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that there are two different
types of membership -- individual and institutional. I belong to ALA as an
individual, but have also seen requests for the institution itself to join.
It was my impression that it is the institutional members that were sent the
free Oprah books, not the individual members. I never received any books as
an individual member.
