Perhaps those who feel that their libraries that cannot afford ALA
memberships, should write to the Oprah show to let them know that their
goals are valid and that we would like to be a part, but we cannot afford to
join ALA as an organization even though we have individual memberships.  ( A
little bit about library funding cuts, lack of help, salaries, and poor
reading scores might also initiate some thought.)

It seems that the benevolence and charity that Oprah exhibits toward
individuals and groups might be demonstrated when she realizes that "poor
schools" that need her book clubs the most are the ones being left behind.
I believe if you can touch on the important of reading with your students
and the book club's effect on individuals who might never read a classic
would help spark an idea from this group of creative individuals.
