Oprah free books and ALA organizational members

Colleagues,

I have been an individual member of ALA & AASL for many years.  My
attendance at state conferences, memberships, etc came out of my own pocket
for many years.  When I became a state officer I still paid for my personal
ALA membership out of my own pocket, though attendance at ALA was supported
by the state organization.

I would just like to suggest that maybe ALA should develop another way of
distributing appropriate freebies based on some need.  If the organizational
membership costs less than the personal membership, I feel even more
strongly about it!!
