Overhead Transparencies

Hi!
In the hidden recesses of the Library, I have found several boxes of
commercially-prepared overhead transparencies.  Some are dreadful and very
out-of-date, but others are terrific so I am in the process of re-labelling,
etc ready for promotion.
My question.  All the transparencies are mounted on cardboard frames and
have their own individual plastic sleeves.  Are these sleeves really
necessary or can I dispose of same thoughtfully?
