Invitation for story idea from NEA Today...

Dear Netters,

    We have a wonderful opportunity...

    A letter to NEA Today by Brooke E. Anderson (Nashport, Ohio)
prompted a discussion on the OELMA listserv regarding the omission of
any mention of school libraries and librarians in the series of reading
articles in the February issue of NEA Today.  I followed up on that
discussion by contacting NEA Today editor, Bill Fischer to discuss ideas
for improving the coverage of school libraries in future issues. Mr.
Fischer indicated that NEA Today would welcome story ideas.

   Mr. Fischer wrote:

> In regard to our conversation, I hope that you will relay to your
> fellow NEA school library/media colleagues our regrets for not
> including library media educators in our reading cover story. As I
> mentioned on the phone, I believe we have improved our coverage of
> school library media issues over the course of the past several years,
> but we missed an excellent opportunity with our February story to
> highlight the role of library media personnel. I regret the oversight.
> I do hope you and your colleagues will offer some suggestions for
> future coverage in NEA Today. We will follow up on your suggestions.

    I would like to urge you to send NEA Today (and similar
publications) school library story ideas that will be of interest to the
educational profession.   When I send my ideas I will also thank NEA
Today for prominently featuring Brooke's letter in the March issue.
