The response to the Laura Bush Foundation call for grant proposals was = overwhelming. More than 6000 schools submitted applications with one-half = of these in the 75%+ range for free and reduced lunch count. Funds = presently available will provide for about 150 grants. The applications = are currently under review and we anticipate announcing the awards around = May 15. =20 =20 The Foundation is impressed by the amount of interest shown in the program = and will be running another round in a year. This obvious need confirms = the First Lady Laura Bush's perception that school libraries are in dire = need of more resources and may help to stimulate even more donor interest.
