Due to Oregon's lack of funding schools, our small school district is reconfiguring some of our 6 schools. Our district is proposing that my current certified library media job in one elementary (k-5) building be changed to managing four schools: k-2nd elementary (800 students), 3rd -5th grade elementary (800 students), 6th grade campus (300 students), 7th-8th grade middle school (600 students). Another certified media specialist would take care of the High School (900 students). I am just wondering what other profession requires ONE person to be responsible for the specialist needs of 2500+ clients (including staff) in four locations on a weekly basis. I have a full-time assistant and am busy as meeting the needs of 500 clients in ONE building! Time for parents to start agitating those who decided the funding about what the goals of education are and why they send their kids to school, I think.
