Help! Setting up projector to a laptop

I need to set up a projector to a laptop for a presentation this afternoon.
I've only set up the projector one other time, and I cannot remember how to
do it.  I'm pretty sure that I have it set up correctly, but I keep getting
no signal.  I have looked everywhere and I cannot find the manual (this is
my first year here).  Is there anyone that can help me?
