I guess they have to leave something off to make an even 100, but there are a few
more books that no child leaves my kindergarten library without loving. I was
looking at a list I once made of essential authors in my collection, and I came up
with these additions:

Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett
Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
Olivia by Ian Falconer
Tough Boris by Mem Fox
Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes (not sure why Owen was originally
included but not Lilly)
Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London
Thank You Mr. Falker, Pink and Say, The Keeping Quilt --or ANYTHING by Patricia
Polacco
Mole Music by David McPhail
Love You Forever or Something Good or Mortimer by Robert Munsch
Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
No, David! by David Shannon (hands-down number one fave)
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn
Goldilocks and the Three Bears by James Marshall (not Galdone)
Rumpelstiltskin by Paul Zelinsky
And I agree, more Seuss. Green Eggs and Ham.

Other than that, it's about 90 percent a great list.
