Our collection is about 350 titles at this point and growing. All are
purchased through the library budget - I buy DVD if available.

I purchase all movies that could support the curriculum, including Disney.
For example we use Prince of Egypt in Religion classes, Lion King (in
Spanish) in Spanish class, etc. We also have Stand By Me in Spanish.

We also have many that support our Film as Lit course - including everything
from Our Town to Bonnie and Clyde. Tons of Shakespeare productions - but I
assume everyone has those.

I just circulated, for example, to a student, the film - What's eating
Gilbert Grape? (purchased for Religion class). we bargin how long the
student can borrow a title - I gave this student one week.

For R movies we require parental permission - for example we just used SLAM
in a poetry class. Other than R - anything goes - my requirement for
purchase is always curricular use.

> Hi All! I have a couple of quick questions for you about the movies in
your collection.
>
> 1. Do you keep movies other than educational ones in your collection?
Any Disney? other studios?
>
> 2. What is your policy regarding the purchase of said movies? Are they
purchased by the English Dept and then "donated" to the library or do you
buy them out of library funds?
>
> 3. What is your policy regarding the purchase and showing of movies that
are NOT rated G? What about Disney and other such productions?
>
> Thanks for your time - I am looking at our policy and wondered how it
compared!
