I need some help from you. I am starting my second year as a LMS in 2
elementary schools. I work Tuesday & Thursday in one and the other on
Mon-Wed-Fri. There is an aide that works at the OPPOSITE school that I do
so that we never see each other. We can email or leave notes for each
other.

This year I have a new aide, so I convinced the 2 principals to allow her
to stay with me until she is comfortable with the computer automation
system, shelving, etc.

Today was my first day of classes (yes, I'm on a fixed schedule teaching
29 classes). It was SOOOO wonderful to have the aide there to check out
books for the students and allow me to help them select books. I know
there are parent volunteers that some schools use, but I haven't had great
success with them and would really prefer to have the aide stay on the
SAME schedule that I am on.

I spoke to the principal at the one school I was at today (his 2nd year
here too) and he asked me for the pros and cons. I explained that the
reason the aide was originally opposite was that her job had been to check
out books for the students, what they called book exchange, but when I
started I convinced the 2 principals that should be my job as the
professional. They agreed.

However, if she is on my time schedule students can not check out books
outside there allotted library time because they can't be checked out.
The library can be used for research (if the teacher comes with the
students), there are computers and a printer that can be used also.

The principal said he would like to think about it. I haven't spoken to
the other one. Of course, there is the superintendent, etc. to also
convince.

My question of all of you, is does anyone have any wonderful advice or
statistics or rationale, etc. that I can use to convince the adminstration
that it would be more advantageous for the students and the school that
she work with me. While I'm teaching she can shelve, checkout books,
check in the books (very difficult when I'm alone and time consuming), do
any other projects that need doing, etc.

Has anyone done this successfully. I would love to hear your suggestions.
I will post a hit if anyone is interested. Thank you so much. I look
forward to some great advice.
