Not that I really want to start a long thread on this, but I just wanted =
to
crawl up on my soapbox. =20

Would someone explain to me why it is that once it starts getting warm, =
it
becomes acceptable for the female teachers to start wearing =
shorts/skorts
(sp) and sandals? But it's in appropriate for me to wear the same thing
(minus the skorts). Especially in the era of AC in most buildings, yes =
I
know not all buildings have AC. We only got our entire building air
conditioned this past winter--so it will be interesting if shorts among =
the
teachers will be acceptable in a few months and in August.

My other comment is why do we allow secondary students to wear shorts =
and
thongs (flip flops for the younger crowd, although I'll admit I love =
using
the term thongs in reference to the foot wear, and to see the reaction =
among
the students), the minute it gets above 45 degrees? =20

I have always made the stance when "they" start enforcing a student =
dress
code among the students. Then you can tell your teachers what they can =
and
can't wear. Yes, most days I do wear slacks, long sleeve dress shirts =
and a
tie, even on the hottest days. Yes, I believe in dressing as a =
professional
(except for blue jean Fridays), but I also believe that what I wear or =
don't
wear is not what makes me a professional. I also understand the =
principles
of first impressions -- something that I think that needs to be =
reinforced
to our students, in this age of fashion as decided by Britney, Hip Hop,
Hollywood, and the music industry.

Thanks for listening and have a great weekend!!!! =20

Subject: GEN: Teacher Dress Code

I have to say that I was amazed at teachers being required to wear hose! =
 We
do have a dress code that doesn't allow jeans, but it is not enforced. =
We
wear jeans on Friday. During the hot months (April, May, July, August,
September) we wear capri (right about the ankle) pants, sandals, and
sleeveless tops. We don't wear hose unless the weather is cool enough =
to
need the warmth. It gets very hot here in central Alabama. Gotta love
"Alabama!"
