HIT: More on Touching Spirit Bear--true story

Thanks to =A0Jean Gustafson, we have "the rest of =

the story."  The information she found will certainly =

interest readers of Touching Spirit Bear.

She searched the archives at =

www.seatle-times.com  =

(free registration required to search the archives) =

and found several length articles detailing the =

experiences of the young men banished for their =

violent crime.  =


According to these articles, the story is true.  =

(Remember, though, that the Times article I cited =

in the previous HIT indicated that Rudy James, the =

man who presented himself as a Tlingit tribal =

judge and suggested the banishment, had a =

history of debt, civil court judgments against him, =

and the Tlingit's disassociated themselves from =

the case.)

This is Jean's summary:  "Both young men were =

removed from their islands after only 6 months =

because of disagreements within their tribe =

council.  Completed their time in prision.  One =

believes he has matured and is working very hard =

to become a better person.  Then other is still a =

very angry young man and is in prision in Alaska =

for other charges."
