Thanks for all of the great responses. For those of you who requested = the information I have put the ideas into 3 e-mails! Linda Lenahan Sacred Heart Academy 3175 Lexington Road Louisville, KY 40206 llenahan@sacredheartacad.com Every 2 or 3 months I put together a 'library newsletter' & distribute = it=20 at our monthly staff meeting. I keep the newsletter to one page & = include=20 items about the "Red Cedar" Club (students read from a set of books that = are nominated provincially & voted on by students), what recent 'goals'=20 have been (weeding the fiction section), what future plans are, and any=20 particular problems or praise. I email urls to staff as I 'discover' = them=20 (or teachers request them). Each month I prepare a newsletter with information about upcoming = projects, websites, Author of the Month info, technology hints/updates, = dates to remember, and a library related quote. It is a good = commmunication tool. Not everyone is going to appreciate all the time it = took, but it will reach most of your teachers. I include graphics and = print it in color so it is eyecatching. My principal loves it. Having = someone edit it for you is a good idea. She edits it for me. Good luck. I try to send out a "Roar from the Lion's Pride" [our nickname, from the = =3D fact that our mascot is a lion and we're the pride of the school] once a = =3D month, a one-page, single-sided sheet that lists new teacher collection = =3D acquisitions, new titles that might interest their students, updates on = =3D coming library events, fund-raisers, and so on. I fill in any empty =3D spots with clip art, trivia questions, and quotes about reading. =3D Sometimes, it's two-sided. I occasionally add a question to be answered = =3D by the end of the day, to win a prize (thus insuring that they will read = =3D them!) For several years before my daughter passed away, I did a four page =3D booklet-style newsletter once a month (like two pages of typewriter =3D paper on its side and folded in half), with self-written articles on =3D reading and authors, book lists, cartoons, quotes, and book reviews, on = =3D Page Maker. Afterwards, I had to ditch everything that wasn't absolutely = =3D needed and that newsletter went by the wayside. One page was all I could = =3D manage for a long time. Then, we got a new computer and the old software = =3D didn't work. I'd like to go back to doing a longer newsletter, though. = =3D We'll see!=3D20 I still do turn out from time to time an article and attached book list = =3D for the teachers, though (usually on my own time). The article/list for = =3D You're Never Too Old for Picture Books started out like that. Recently, = =3D I did another one about using diaries and journals (both reading =3D already-written ones and writing your own) to encourage writing and =3D reading skills, and I'm currently working on an annotated list of all = =3D the Scholastic diaries to add to it. Eventually, I'd like to sell my =3D articles/lists to other schools, teachers, and librarians in booklet =3D form, as well as to various magazines, since they're a lot of work.=3D I print it on paper. It's always just one page, printed front and back. = The=20 back has a listing of the most recent professional books added to the=20 collection. The front is divided into just 4 sections designed to be = quick to=20 read yet informative. One section always highlights one of the library=20 databases. <<Library newsletter5.doc>>=20 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
